How to root Mi Box 7.0 Beta 1028?

Hi,

I found out that the 1028 beta has root enabled according to the first post in this thread: https://www.reddit.com/r/AndroidTV/comments/73evya/mi_box_nougat_beta_build_1028/ But when trying to browse the system files with ES File Explorer it gives me an error saying root is not available.

Is there something I need to do to activate root on this?

What I need to access is the keymap file for the Mi Box remote, and edit the power buttons function.

If I need to do anything via adb, can I do it via network or do I need to do it via USB?

  1. You should NOT be using ES File explorer on ANY Android TV platform otherwise expect strange problems to occur.

It's nothing better than Adware, Bloatware and Spyware these days. Worst App in the ATV Playstore IMHO.

The X-Plore App is what should be used on Android TV.

  1. ADB USB (or via WiFi), or a Terminal App - Root access is already enabled on FW1028 on the Mi Box. (its filename includes user-debug). Just type "su"

  2. Also needed will be RW access to the system partition: "mount -o rw,remount /system"

However you still cannot unlock the Bootloader to install permanent Rooting Apps like SuperSU or Magiskv14.0
