Say you leave the phone downloading a movie all night. Then instead of copying the big file to your PC, you stream it straight from your phone, using the Kodi app, for example. Has anyone tried that? Is it smooth?

I hope you are not using bittorent to download on your phone. RIP phone
Definitely possible using an external player and Android TV's built in Chromecast functionality, from my experience it wasn't totally smooth though.
