playing 4k zipped files on android tv

by bittihuduga

hi i have my hdd connected to my sony xe9005 android tv. hdd has a 4k movie in h265 format the movie file is broken down into multiple zip files. kodi can play generally zip files but it cannot play this 4k due to filesize or bad 4k support i guess.. not sure. but is it possible to play the 4k zipped files on my tv? i cannot see the folder on tv. i tried playing via vlc but it failed. any support?

Unzip the file? Zipping a movie does not make the file size any smaller.

Kodi can play archived films. Thought it might not work well without some CPU resources behind it.

I know why shield can play a 40gb 4k rar'd archive

Why would you not just reconstitute the original file by unzipping it?

Zip compression is useless for video files, the file is already compressed video (h265), zip isn't going to be able to compress it any better.

It's possible that your TV doesn't have enough horsepower to unzip the file fast enough to stream the video file. It's also possible the software doesn't support streaming unzipping for certain types of zip files - zip supports a wide variety of algorithms under the hood, and maybe the one used for your multi file archive isn't supported.

Have you verified that the file is valid some other way?
