Yet another Xiaomi Mi Box Update Rant

by OrionGrant

Xiaomi should feel ashamed... If there is one Android TV box that needs updating it's this buggy piece of shit. Have they completely abandoned it?

Yea Xiaomi, like most Android manufacturers, barely support the OS updates. At least they've had beta, they're all linked over at XDA, just install 1028 and wipe cache, it works perfectly: http://www.mediafire.com/folder/9k82rbe2nc0vw/mdz-16-ab

Yes I understand it's taking too long for the patch to hit and any normal company would have had it out already..

But on the other hand I don't want some half-assed patch to hit that has multiple major issues that were not addressed in beta. I don't have a backup to watch programming so if my Mi Box is out of commission from a bad update, I'm screwed.

It's odd too since the beta 1035 in my experience is nearly perfect. It just needs YouTube working again but I can live with that since my smart TV has 4K YouTube. Although If they're still supporting the device they really should just skip to Oreo.

My Samsung just pushed N about 2 months ago. That is the one thing I hate about Android. I wish Google would update themselves and skip manufacturers. Then the manufacturers can update their skins/launcher whenever. Especially for non-network devices.

Yes there is a wide variety of hardware, but Google could figure out how to deal with that. As for networks, I think they sit on the update because they want you to buy a new phone.

I see there are betas going around for the 7.0 update but I have never seen an update take this long for any other Android device. It's as though they are waiting until it's perfect (never going to happen) or they have no plans to release an update and, as you feared, abandoned it.

I'm using the factory firmware and have no issues

(I am using it for 1080p only)

To me it's a great value and compliments my main unit the Shield TV
