Is there a way to get hd audio from nvidia shield tv to my 1080p amp and keep shield on 4k?

by hunter_finn

So i have this problem with my current setup that my TV is 4k and it has two 2.0 hdmi connections, but my amp (onkyo tx-nr616 only has 1.4 and it caps at 1080p.

So I was just wondering if there was a way to connect my nvidia shield into both devices at the same time.

Keep my shield at 4k and still somehow send those hd audio signals to my onkyo.

Audio return channel (ARC) is not the solution because it would require hdmi 2.1 at the both ends, and new kind of high speed hdmi cord just to get both 4k hdr and HD audio formats going through arc.

Afraid it's time to go receiver shopping.

ARC is supported since 1.4. you don't needs to pass the 4k through the hdmi cable. connect the shield to the tv and then connect the tv to the onkyo using arc hdmi

Shield to 4K TV via HDMI then from TV to amp via TOSLINK (optical) cable is how I set up the 5.1 system at my sister's house.

You could theoretically use an HDMI splitter to send the signal to both places, but it's the sort of thing that will be clunky and randomly not work.

I'm in the same boat (I have the 636, which doesn't support HDR) and figure I'll just wait for a sale on a good receiver. But no Dolby Vision means I'm not rushing.

https://www.hdfury.eu/fi/home/31-hdfury-integral-4x-hdmi20a-4k60-444-600mhz-cables.html In the end this seems like the best option to go, I can input two devices instead of one, and get both to display 4k60fps hdr picture to the tv. Also I can still get those loseless audio formats to my receiver.

Only issue is that the tv already cost me 777€ (Philips 55PUS7272) then I had to buy erard standid 600 @290€ because tv's feet were 70cm apart. However my tv stand only has 50x40cm area for the tv's feet.

So now I have to spend even more.

And to think I tough that this tv wasn't that expensive...
