Is it not possible to connect a Dualshock 4 controller via Bluetooth to an android tv?

by etay080

Hello, I have an android tv box and I tried to connect a DS4 via bluetooth to it, it does connect and does identify it but it is not taking any input whatsoever. Is it even possible to connect a DS4 to it?

Check the model number on the back of your PS4 Dualshock controller. Is it CUH-ZCT1 or the newer CUH-ZCT2? For a very long while, at least Sony's own tech support for their Bravia line of Android TV's, said that only the CUH-ZCT1 would work, and that the CUH-ZCT2 would not. I have the CUH-ZCT1 DS4 controller. I remember checking after reading that note awhile back, and was able to pair and use it. Just didn't end up using it much because I play games on an actual PS4 instead (and an Xbox One, and an SNES Classic.) So being able to pair the DS4 with the Sony AndroidTV was just an experiment for me, to see how it'd feel.

Now, if you go to Sony's same support pages, you'll see they've been updated recently, and now say something different. NOW it says " The Android TV™ no longer supports all DUALSHOCK® controllers (including CUH-ZCT1x). This is due to the ending of the PlayStation™ Now service. "

I don't know if "no longer supports" means they won't help you out if you hit a snag, or if it means it no longer actually works, like, at all. I'll try to test it out later today.

Edit to add: Pity that archive.org doesn't have older snapshots of these pages to compare. I did find this support discussion though, which made reference to the distinction:

It's weird but some Android devices seem to support the DS3/DS4 controllers. Others need root and the Sixaxis Controller app off google play.

My Shield TV required root and Sixaxis app to use PS3/4 controllers.

Yes it is. I'm doing it with my Sony Bravia android. Just go to the blue tooth device settings in your tv.

You won't be able to use it with your ps4 after that. I have not found a way to reconnect it to the ps4. I did not investigate much though...

I have plenty of boxes and it's a hit or miss. Is your box rooted? There's an app called something like Sixaxis that helps you to pair the controller.

There's a dongle you can buy that may work

I can do it on tcl 60p20us works great for emulators

I can pair my dualshock 4 (newer model) with my oppo r7 lite unrooted, but not with a rooted galaxy s3. i don't know why, there seem to be inconsistencies with what's compatible? I guess a standard bluetooth controller would be more consistent across devices?
