YouTube native app sucks

by circlethispoint

Does anyone wise think that the latest YouTube App on androidtv is garbage? I can't believe how bad this upgrade has been and doesn't seem to our be a resolution in sight.

What kills me is how subscriptions have now amounted to one like of alphabetical lists of channels and their uploads in on line. Unbelievable. Having to scroll through the start of the alphabet each time you open a subscription and then constant clicking to get through the latest.

Just bad user interface completely after really enjoying the last version (red) this current version (black) is just God awful.

Anyone think the same or have some alternatives?

I really enjoy it but I guess I'm in the minority.

Half the interface ideas are great, but the other half are hot garbage. You can tell it isn't using native rendering and sticks out like a sore thumb.

Just downgrade to 1.3.11 and disable auto update. Easy.

Personally I like the new version, but yes it's missing a lot of features and the player could look more modern. Hopefully now that they have unified the UI for all TV devices, they can polish it and add all the missing features.

To be clear, what you're saying sucks is actually the new YouTube web app, not the old YouTube native app. I don't think you'll hear many disagreements in here. I personally don't really use the Android TV YouTube app for discovery, so I haven't bothered downgrading. I just cast from my phone when I see a video that I want to watch and I'm sitting in front of the TV.

The new version sucks, on my new shiny smart projector would randomly crash and 4K videos wouldn't play, and there's no way to turn the resolution down to 1080P. But it works decently well on my old crappy Android TV box. I still prefer version 1.x.x.x though.

ProgrammerPlus

I agree with everything you said. YouTube android tv app is just horrible.

Vrokolos

I like the app. The only thing I don't like is that it won't stay on and will have to be reloaded in every damn video I want to watch from a third party app.

Haven't really used it, but isn't the Android TV app just a web wrapper and not native?

PalebloodSky

New app works perfectly fine for me. Yes it should be cleaner and faster, but I'm used to Google's apps being garbage for AndroidTV at this point.

I like the Youtube addon for Kodi. It is a different UI to try.

I guess I am one of the few who has no problems with it?

To me it works no different than the old one did, it just looks different. I have sooo many subscribed channels, trying to find them in the list has never been an option as I have too many for it to show them all. The old app stopped at 200 and put them in a seemingly random order. The web app seems to show abougt 250-300, but puts them in alpha order. Regardless it has always been easier and quicker to just do a voice search for a specific channel if I wanted it.

My normal use is to simply check the Subscriptions tab, which lists the latest videos in descending order by upload time from all of your subscriptions. This is 98% of my YouTube usage, with the rest being checking out the Home/Suggested page. At least for this, it is functionally no different than the old app.

I ghess Imhave never been enough of a Youtube power user to think much about it either way. It finds and plays what i want it too. Its plenty quick on the Shield. Never have been able to figure out whats so bad about it.

MrSh0wtime3

Well guess I wont be getting a Shield. Fire TV losing Youtube was my main reason for getting one.

Are we talking about the update version 2.02.08? Is it still a crappy web wrapper?
