hey guys, hope this is the right place to put this, since i updated kodi ive been having problems with playback, and im not the most tech savvy person, i know how to keep things updated and clean my memory etc, but wondering what i can do to improve the playback quality? sometimes it works great and sometimes it doesnt, and the problem is not my internet connection.

If you are talking about media playback, it tends to be the sources' servers that causes longer load times or buffering (assuming the user has fast enough internet). Sometimes what use to be a good source stops being one and sometimes a bad source gets good.
If it's the app, it probably has a bunch of crap, especially if you use some builds or you add and remove alot of add-ons. Go into AndroidTV settings, Apps, and look at Kodi. When you first install it is probably a few hundred megs. After a lot of usage it tends to creep up into gigs. Sometimes a fresh start helps a lot. Uninstall and reinstall (of course be prepared to re-add and tweak everything all over again. If you bought a device with it all pre-installed, you'll lose it).
are you using wifi? maybe its some kind of interference.. wifi can be easly afectade by others networks and devices..

Have you tried SPMC ? It's supposed to be a bit more Android friendly. I've been using it instead of the official Kodi app. It's also developed by a Kodi developer.
