What you have is a TV box with Android, not a AndroidTV devices, which runs a specific branch of Android.

Official Android TV devices run the Android TV operating system. It is a fork of Android that Google optimized for the living room. They partner with OEMs like NVIDIA, ASUS, and Xiaomi to make a product that has all the certifications and codecs that it'd need to be a successful consumer product.

Then there are the junk boxes from China. They are usually a single blueprint design that many of them copy and sell under dozens of "brand" names. They have regular touchscreen Android installed and do not get any of the proper certifications to display HD content. These boxes do not run the Android TV operating system, thus do not have Google Cast capability.

As far as marketing these boxes, they can technically all them "Android" TV boxes because they are TV boxes that run Android. They are not "Android TV" boxes which are boxes that run Android TV.

If your box includes Miracast capability, then they should tell you. There should be documentation. If there isn't, then maybe you see why Google partnering with the OEM to make a quality product makes a bit of a difference than some random junk box you buy online. You can actually get support from a reputable company!

Netflix casting is not possible on to a Box that does not have:

  • Google (Android TV) Certification - Googlecasting Keys also come with an Android TV licence.
  • Netflix Approval
  • No Widevine L1 DRM or HDCP

Miracast has nothing to do with it. Boxes without the above simply will not be able to install (from the Playstore) or play / cast Netflix at all.
