Unuseful Mi Box

by Vndtt

Laste Week I Bought a MI box. I was only reading good stuff about the device, so I Jumped in. First, Netflix doesn,t work. The infamous tvq pm 100 5.2.5 comes to play. I've read a lot about it, and I'm not really sure if it's a TV problem, a Netflix Problem or a MI BOx problem. There is no solution, that's all I know. Casting Netflix is also impossible, or HBO. None of the two platforms seem to recognize the mi box as a Chromecast Device. And so, two of the main purposes I Bought the box are gone. I have to say that everything else works fine. Kodi, DS Video, Casting Spotify (I know there is an official app, just was testing the chromecast issues). This isn't a post critiquing the Mi Box, I think is a very good device. I´m just feeling silly, thas all

Your two issues are most likely not Mi Box related yet you already blamed the Mi Box for both.

This is why the Mi Box gets their bad name. Everyone blames the box when the real issue is with the persons WiFi or the HDMI cable or the TV.

Netflix is probably your TV. If not than it's a network issue.

"Your device may be experiencing an HDCP issue that is preventing Netflix from playing your content.

Ensure that you are using an HDMI cable. Bypass any receivers or stereo equipment by connecting your device directly to your TV.

Try reversing the ends or try a new HDMI cable.

Try another HDMI port on your TV.

If available, try an HDMI port on another TV."

"What is HDCP?

HDCP stands for High-bandwidth Digital Content Protection. The purpose of HDCP is to protect digital copyrighted content as it travels from a device to your TV, generally through HDMI or DVI connections. HDCP is required to stream Netflix from a device connected to your TV."

For HBO, does HBO Now or HBO go not work? I haven't used those in awhile, but heard mixed results on HBOgo.

Edit: Had no issue casting Netflix but just realized that casting actually opened up the app on my Mi Box. It allowed me to control from both my phone and box. That's probably why it won't cast, it still has to send protected video to your TV.

2 things to fix it.

Buy a 1.3b HDMI splitter from China which does not enforce HDCP. This will fix Netflix.

To fix casting ensure the mi box is always on by enabling the always on setting in the developer section. (Click 'build' or 'firmware' version in 'about' 7 times and dev mode section will enable). If you can see the cast tab it's likely a firmware in the mi box issue. This only fixes the disappearing button (wifi and usb port power down in sleep which breaks cast until reboot)
