Go to settings, apps, system apps, YouTube and turn off notifications. You won't get any recommendations at all from YouTube then tho
I installed TED just to have something non-irritating in that panel (if you disable everything you get a big ugly empty space and text mocking your choices).
I use Android TV since 2014. My first device was Nexus Player. Youtube for Android TV was a great app. It was using the UI guidelines of the OS, it was fast and none frame dropped during playback. Also at home screen it showed your personalised recommended videos. I was astonished how well the algorithm worked. Suddenly with one update silently they changed the behavior. Sometimes shows "popular" videos sometimes "promoted". They promised to change that in Google plus official Android TV forum and since then 1,5 years passed. I am guy and I don't care about karaoke, Colbert clips, Mylo yianopoulos, make-up tips and cat/cute/baby videos. They want to promote you or show you popular, trending or featured etc videos and make money. They don't care about real personalization because they cannot control directly their monetazation. The same happened with the Haystack app. Now I have enabled reddit, Spotify and ARTE only. Speak up against Idiocracy.
They're not even in English!
That shit is horrifying.
And I noticed that since disabling most recommendations my SHIELD got considerably faster.
Hmm, for me it seems to show personalized videos. However, I really wish it didn't. I'd rather it show videos based only on what has been watched on the shield instead. The problem is it's linked to my personal account, so if I watch some quad copter fpv video or something on my laptop, suddenly it's a full page of fpv quad videos on the shield for the entire family.
Like others, I recommend turning off recommendations for most app especially YouTube. Does anyone else have a Pro unit that chokes on recommendations after a reboot?
My personalized recommendations are spot on. Im surprised yours isn't.
Someone wanted to look like Angelia Jolie....I think she nailed it.
I'm really surprised to see people saying their YouTube recommendations aren't personalized. Mine are, and I created a Google account specifically for my TV, so it is based on stuff either my wife or I have watched on the TV, and not stuff we've seen on our computers, which tend to be more random in nature due to Reddit links and whatnot.
I added my TV's Google account as a family member, so I can still install many of the apps I've bought on my personal account.
The most annoying thing is ... they aren't personalized!~
