Question: How to play movies from local network?

Hey /r/androidtv !

I just bought my first Android TV. Actually it's a real TV, manufactured by Philips. It's easy to play movies from my dropbox account, works like a charm! Awesome.

However, I do not know how to play movies from my local network. I have a router with file storage (Apple Time Capsule), DLNA does not supported. Could you help me?

edit: There is a way to play movies from USB storage. I haven't tried it yet, but it's an alternative thing to solve this one.

You could try playing it through smb with either SPMC or Kodi.

VLC plays movies from SMB servers, and so does Kodi.

I found Archos really good. It searches for Movies and TV shows and sorts gets info about them. Then you can open the file with any media player you'd like
