Autostart kodi

by tampasmix

Hi, it's there any way to autostart kodi on boot but on background? I intend to stay at the Leanback Laucher but to use the recommendations from the kodi app. For that, the app should be already running. And I'm trying to avoid to click the remote to get back to the launcher. Thanks in advance

The Kodi recommendations basically work by the normal Kodi APK starting both Kodi and a secondary helper app. The helper app acts as a bridge by interfacing with Kodi's web interface to load library data, and Android's recommendation API's. Before this was built-in to Kodi someone made a separate helper app that just ran in the background. I forget the name, but it might be possible to just start that up so that something is shown for Kodi. Of course, the recommendations wouldn't be updated until Kodi is opened again, but previously cached data should be stored (in theory).

I can't speak if these work but you could give these two apps a try:

A long time back I had an android box and used an app (I think it was XBMC Launcher.) It worked great, but it wasn't Android TV compatible. Ever since I moved on to Android TV, I haven't found a need for a launcher, which is why I can't speak to if those apps work or not.

The other thing you could look at is SPMC. It has an autoboot option - https://github.com/koying/SPMC/wiki/How-to-autostart-SPMC-on-boot

or use Plex

I get recommendations, next up, and search on my library
