I'm wicked excited! Should be here this Saturday.
I wish I could have one for my bedroom tv. Already have one in the living room, but really cant justify the box for the bedroom. Probably will just live with a Mi Box in there. Don't want to be locked into Amazons ecosystem and want the android tv interface
Congrats, brother. I just ordered mine a hour ago. It will be here Tuesday
After messing with raspberry pi's and running a way overpowered HTPC, springing for a shield tv is the best thing I've done.
It handles all my bluray rips with uncompressed audio in kodi, has good YouTube, Netflix, and Amazon video apps, and it's quite speedy.
I have been using two different android tv devices so far, one being nvidia shield tv 2017 and other is my Philips 55PUS7272 4k tv.
So far what I have noticed is that all of the non gaming things what shield can do, can the Philips do almost as well too. That's long as there is app for it...
However for example you can't expect Chrome or Firefox to play videos from sites like kissanime or similar with the Philips tv. However with nvidia shield I can almost use all of the same sites that I can use with my computer, meaning that I can use the kiss sites to watch videos. or for example I can go to my local pay tv operators website and watch 1080p50fps html5 live stream of F1 race using chrome. Meanwhile I tested the same site with recording of the same race, and despite the fact that it was only 720p 25fps video (with same player) on the Philips TV. It was completely unwatchable laggy mess.
So I would not go so far as calling shield just a overpriced netflix/kodi machine.
Congrats! It's worth every penny.
It’s a truly remarkable device. What’s amazing is that once you have it, you don’t have to worry about getting anything else because nothing competes (nothing, including the new Apple TV 4K).
Enjoy it!
I haven't used any of the gaming but plan to try some streaming from my game pc to the shield tv.
I love my two shields. Much better then my 3 Miboxes. But since the last two updates they can be a bit flaky. They are certainly not perfect. And Live Channels /HD Homerun has gone downhill. Not blaming Shield for that, but it still sucks as there was so much promise, but apparently Google has no real intentions of doing anything more with it. Until Plex offers a real EPG for TV, there's no choice. However I can't see myself ditching Android TV, it's just too flexible compared to the rest.
Congrats!
Pls don't be one of the clowns that comes back here a day later calling the shield an overpriced netflix player ;)
