Sony X900E

by parbas

Does anyone else have a Sony X900E TV (or any Sony with AndroidTV)?

The TV in general is beautiful, the panel looks amazing! But AndroidTV on it sucks - and I feel like it's gotten worse over the six months I've owned it. It gets really, really laggy, the app icons will randomly sift themselves around, and it seems to require a reboot every few days. I know this is not how AndroidTV should work, as my cheam Mi Box is 100 times snappier than this is. I feel like for the price of the TV, it should be able to open Netflix or Plex and not hangup or crash.

Turning off the Sony bloatware does wonders

Go in to your apps in settings

Force Stop Sony Shelf and Sony Select. Make sure to turn off notifications if it's listed in the menu (only available on one of them I believe) to stop it from restarting.

Probably has an underpowered SoC. From what I found in a quick Google search, it supposedly has a Mediatek chip. They aren't in the same class as a Qualcomm or Exynos or NVIDIA or Apple chip.

EDIT: just looking at some benchmarks...

X900E's Android TV integration leaves a lot to be desired. Highly recommend getting a Shield.

I have a Philips and don't have these issues. It's your Sony

Enable developer options, and in there disable animations and background processes. Fixed every bit of lag in menus I briefly experienced.
