Swap Mibox for Shield TV?

by Dikkekoko

I currently own a Mibox with AndroidTV but i dont like it for the following reasons:

  • Box goes in standby which means i cant cast to the device without picking up the remote

  • Playback using Kodi and Plex is laggy, i see tiny hickups all the time. (i'm only using 1080P content, 4K playback would be horrible on this box i think)

  • Software support is horrible, the duration of the Nougat beta is way too long.

Are there some users here that swaped their Mibox for the ShieldTV?

if so, how big is the change, will i notice some differences?

I own both and can tell you that, yes, you will absolutely notice the difference. Whether that difference is worth an extra $75 is debatable.

I never had problems with 1080p in Kodi, and 4K was halfway decent (just cant skip forward too much without a tiny bit of buffering). I was hardwired to a gigabit Ethernet network though.

Just put the latest Android 7 beta on your Mi Box before you considering spending all that money on a Shield. It's a great setup I have no complaints right now.

Haven't had a mi. Have a stv and you should not expect hassle free device. A lot of users like myself with remote issues. Finally sorted out after replacing both my stv and remote. Updates can be problematic too. That said, i still love my stv and bought a 2nd one.

I replaced 3 mi box's with shield TVs and my only regret is that I didn't buy the shield in the first place. The only Mi Box I still have installed is outside on the patio since I dont really care if it gets damaged. Wish you could use the mibox remotes on the shield though, because that is the only thing they did better (aside from price)
