But why would it be named after a method of file access?

Here's how to fix http://sony-eur-eu-en-web--eur.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/144005

Basically you have to enable samba then disable it again.

The system asks you if you want to enable this "feature" when you set up the TV or update. My 65x810c got this when I updated to marshmallow about 10 months ago. I opted-out and have never seen this error before.

Zero issues on mine. This was already disabled when I first got the TV and cleaning out the bloatware.

Sony....well that explains it.

I did a bit of research, apparently the 2017 65" Sony Android TV rock a MT5891, which is a 1.1GHz quad core A53. My $150 piece of shit Chinese phone has a stronger processor, an octacore MT6753. Most of the 2016 also rock the MT5891, but some use the MT5890, which is a dual core 1GHz dual core A17 (probably more powerful than the newer one, at least at single core). The 2015's use MT5595, which is a dual cluster CPU with 2 A17 cores and 2 A7 cores, which it can't use at the same time, so it's essentially dual core with two more powerful cores that take over when needed. This kind of architecture is great in phones that need to save battery life but it kinda silly on a 65" TV you're not carrying around anywhere and running on battery.

The point of all this techno mumbo-jumbo is that Sony uses terribly weak processors in their Smart TV lineup, even the $5000 ones. They suck to begin with, and you can never upgrade them without buying a new TV.

omg who will buy sony TV's now?

This is one of many reasons you don't buy a smart TV.

Don't buy a TV for smart features unless you are an idiot. Your TV will be out of date and shit in 2 years.
