YouTube on Bravia/Nougat reloads every time you open it

Hey all. Just got my Bravia 8000E-series TV last week, and one thing I notice is every time I open YouTube, it reloads. i.e., it doesn't remember what video I was watching last time, or even the list of videos. It seems like it always terminates when you go back to the home screen. Is there any way to get it to stay active in the background, via adb, if necessary?

Go into the play store settings and turn off automatic updates. Then go to the play store 'my apps.' Click on YouTube and "uninstall updates." Since it's a new TV, you might not have the old version of the app, but it's worth a shot.

The new YouTube app is utter trash -- it's just this web page .

Does the same on both my Shield and Nexus, and it's been like that since they updated the app to be a web wrapper. If you can find and install an old version of the app, it should act the way you expect.
