Has the Netflix app been very unreliable for anyone else? Any recommended alternatives or fixes?

No, but if clearing data and reinstalling don't fix it for you, you can also Chromecast Netflix to the TV which avoids the native TV app.

Works great on mine no issues. Used to have to kill it once in a while to get to load... but not in a couple months.
