New TCL - can I upgrade from ATV 6.01

by muddyh2o

I received a new TCL L55c2 today and it comes with 6.01. It's great, but I'd like a newer version, particularly for Google Assistant since I have a bunch of other Home devices setup.

Can that be done? Or should I just plug in a Chromecast? I can't seem to get Google Home to control the new TV...

I have a mi box and I ended up plugging in the CC to get the Google Home to do it's thing. It's still at 6.01 as well. I think you'd have to wait for TCL to upgrade it to 7.0.

I recommend you not to upgrade to android 7.0 on tcl tv , it isn't good at all.

You can upgrade now manually to Android 7.0 with .pkg file but it's not good.. I have upgraded and facing some issues :(

I bought a TCL U55C7006 2 weeks ago and I'm in the same boat as you. 7.0 is being pushed out VERY SLOWLY it seems. With only very old firmware listed for download on their site. They started gradually pushing it out to their TVs in the beginning of December. And they've replied on twitter stating that you should get the update any day now... :/ I've seen some reports of people getting the 7.0 update so at least I know they're not bullshitting me.

6.1 has issues with the screen dimming in the android TV launcher menu and my receiver is also having issues with it as to sometimes not receive any audio or having audio play both on the receiver and the TV at the same time. Dolby DTS is also a train wreck on 6.0.1 as it just doesn't work at all at the moment. (known issue, kodi apparently has workarounds for this, but this won't help me on VLC, archos & Plex)

This TV is awesome hardware for the money, but man they are very late to the party to fix these glaring software issues. I'll keep bugging them about updating their software downloads on their site 'cuz this is ludicrous.
