4k@30 or 60 on Netflix/Amazon on Shield?

by th3suffering

Have a HDMI 1.4 AVR with 4K@30 passthrough. So far have been putting everything through the TV and then back to the AVR via ARC. Problem is, it will only output DD and DTS (not DD+ doesn't work even though the TV says it can and the AVR is DD+ capable). Ive noticed due to the lack of DD+ audio on Amazon is only 2 channel (Netflix is 5.1). So ive thought about piping it through the AVR and then to the TV, but will this work considering the AVR will only passthrough 4K@30?

There's no 60fps content on Netflix and Amazon (and probably won't be for a long time due to failure of Hobbit high FPS mode), so it'll be just fine.

And yeah, TVs not passing through DD/DTS/DD+ properly is a common occurence due to manufacturers not paying for codec licenses.

If you do that, you won't get HDR.

I had this issue, you'll want to mess with your passthrough settings on the TV to see if you can get it to pass the right 5.1 Audio. for me selecting "bitstream" worked best. What kind of TV do you have?

Also when your TV says HDMI 1.4 it also probably doesn't have HDCP2.2, so it won't even passthrough Netflix or Amazon due to digital copy protection.

Also when the tv claims it supports Dolby Digital + it probably means from it's own apps, not as a passthrough.
