Does anyone know if it would it be possible to attach a hard drive to the shield and manage all the downloading and sorting on a laptop and then move them automatically over a wireless network to the shield? Cheers.

I use a 2TB usb3 portable drive as internal system storage for my shield. I use my laptop to download all my movies/shows and then I move them wirelessly to my shield. I find it easier to do this way. I don't want to get another NAS box (my shield is my NAS). I don't want to constantly move my external hard drive from my laptop to my shield.
Thanks for the replys. I'll try it out.
Yes you can if you make the shield use an external hdd as its "system" drive and that you can share over the network. Normal plug a hdd in and just use it as storage can't be shared.
It sounds like your plan will work from what others are saying, but I have a slightly different solution. I have a NAS device mounted to the Shield as external storage. They're hardwired to the same gigabit switch, so there's been plenty of bandwidth in all my usage. Might be too slow if you use the Shield on WiFi. I like my setup because I can use the NAS as a standard network drive for other stuff without going through the Shield.
