Mi Box 4 (2018) version?

by Zulazai

Anyone know if there is a new version coming out? I just realized Mi Box 3 is over 1.5 years old now and they usually used to ship a new model every year. Have Xiaomi given up on Android TV?

given how slow they've updated the OS on the current version, it doesn't seem like it's exactly a priority for them

My two MiBox 3s are in my junk pile. I will never buy another PoS MiBox. It had issues with HBO from day one.

I'm also eager if there is an upgrade, in terms of hardware. A built in ethernet port, more ram maybe, and higher chipset to play new android games.

Maybe I'm one of the few of the lucky ones, but I have no major issues on my Mi box running Marshmallow. I couldn't care for streaming addons, I've long given up on them due to reliability and takedown of repos.

I just stream from my local content via Kodi. Granted, there's a learning curve, but once you configured it properly, this tiny Mi Box is surprisingly good.

The box was released 1.5yrs ago which is when the S905X was released. S905X2 chips boxes are coming out soon, if they are going to launch a new box it will likely use one of these upcoming chips. The only big mistake they have made is not including an ethernet port.

I have given up on the Mi box and I now use the Apple TV I got for free with Directv Now in the living room and the built in apps on my Samsung 4k TV in the den. I might pick up a Shieldtv at some point, but I am waiting to see if either YouTube TV or DirecTV now fill in their channel gaps so I can drop one or the other.

The world does not need another Mi box. No updates, app fragmentation, etc.

Heck at this point Alphabet has given up on AndroidTV. Why shouldn't Xiaomi?

I wouldn't bother on it, the MiBox was a garbage pile anyway, it'll never even get Nougat. Honestly your best bet for an Android TV box is still the Nvidia Shield, or that upcoming Channel Master one with the built-in OTA tuner looks promising.

But I want some shiny new things!!!!!!

I have a reputation to uphold for having the newest and shiniest and I cannot jeopardize it.

There is a Porsche in my driveway and only use it to drive the kids to school and grocery shopping.

I have a stellar audio setup for playing my 8 track tape collection.

Gimme, gimme, gimme more sparkling baubles!!!
