Sideloaded apps not under "apps"

by htmlnoob52

Hi,

Reasonably new to Android TV.

Have loaded Popcorntime via APK+USB into my Sony Android TV, however it does not appear under the "Apps" list in the menu screen, meaning I have been using a third party file explorer to navigate to the root .exe to launch it every time.

Am I doing something wrong?

Thanks

install TV App Repo to create shortcut for sideloaded apps

TV App Repo is the best solution imo. You can create a custom banner that will show up on your home screen like any other app no need to use a custom launcher

Popcorntime has an Android TV optimized version which will appear on the Apps list but most likely you installed the Mobile version that doesn't have the TV banner that's why it didn't appear on your App list.

You can install 'Sideload Launcher' to view non-Android TV optimized apps or you can go to 'Settings>Apps>Popcorntime>Launch'

Install "Hal Launcher" from the play store. It'll allow you to launch your app quicker and easier.

Side load launcher or HAL launcher will fix that for you.

If an app wasn't made to be compatible with the Android TV OS, then it won't appear in your apps row. Same thing with the Google Chrome browser. It will install, and it will function as an Android app, but it was never flagged for Android TV and doesn't have a tile graphic for your apps row.

There are ways around it like installing a new launcher or using another app to show all your installed apps. Those solutions have already been mentioned in this thread.
