New mi box on its way and had some netflix questions

by Max_Roc

Has the Netlix issue been fixed yet? If not, could I run into any Netflix problems if I use the box on a tv for initial setup, then move it later to another tv?

The setup tv will be a sharp 1080 or an old rca 720. Then, it will be on a cheap 4k Element tv.

I'm on the 4 stream netflix plan so don't think it's 4k but I don't know. Can a mi play Netflix 1080 plan on a 4k tv?

Also, should I leave auto update on or off?

Appreciate any advice. Thanks

I never ran into a problem with Netflix and had the same mi box since a few months after release.

The issues people ran into appeared to be a problem with their TV and Netflix's digital protection. You should be fine as it was a rare occurrence considering the amount sold.

Don't worry about the updates. You can disable the stuff you don't want and if you don't like the recommend section on Google's home screen, you can disable that by setting, apps, system apps, XiaomiLeanbackCustomizer, disable.

You may run into the Netflix DRM issue with that cheap Element tv, but you are just going to have to try it. On my Haier 4K it throws up the error on both Miboxs I tried.

Its not a MiBox issue but a Netflix issue.

Sounds like you may have a potential problem. Netflix dictates that every device in the chain MUST support DRM.

The test for DRM compliance is done for every TV connected.

They are especially strict in enforcing DRM support with AndroidTV boxes.

The most likely TVs to lack proper DRM support are older models and low-end off brand models.

Check the manual for your tvs and see if it even mentions DRM, specifically HDCP. That will give you a hint of what to expect.

In any event, Walmart is very easy on exchanges if your tvs fail to be equipped with proper DRM to satisfy Netflix's requirements.

Good luck

I have one of the 'cheap' 4k TVs (Haier) and was originally having the Netflix DRM issue. I purchased this HDMI splitter and have been having ZERO issues watching Netflix (in HD and 4K). Only issue I have encountered is that every time my mibox turns on it sets the resolution to 720p. I have to manually change that each time to 4K. Kind of a pain but at least I can watch Netflix now on my mibox.
