Currently I use my actual TV's remote because it has some decent CEC functionality. Power, 4 directional arrows, select, back and Volume. No home though.
I would love a remote that can do all that + home but not sure if anything like that exists.

I've had this remote recommended to me in the past. I haven't tried it though, so I can't vouch for it. https://smile.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00M4JYTWA/ref=mp_s_a_1_2
Another option would be to use a FLIRC and set it up with whatever remote you have on hand. A FLIRC is a USB IR receiver that can be used with any IR remote and translates the button presses from it to keyboard commands. You would do the initial setup on a PC, then unplug the FLIRC and move it to the Shield.
Have you looked at a Sideclick? It hooks onto the side of a streaming box remote and sends IR signals to the TV. I don't think they have one that fits the Shield remote, but they do have one that fits the Mi box remote.
Hmmm, we have a One For All - Zapper, for when we do not feel like finding the game controllers.
I've used the learning capability, so:
The latter two could be anything, the only thing we miss is to be able to make a macro to do a Picture-Off on our samsung TV.
Anyway, everything is very quick to react, but scrolling a long list/row is a bit annoying, because if I try to learn a continuous signal, a single press often ends up being two from the remote, but learning just a single press, I end up pressing a lot of times... But then we have the game controllers for anything not super casual.
Edit: it's a Shield 2015 btw.
Edit2: I used the android app Sure, to get it to learn the Shield IR.
Flirc
Good luck, last time I posted about remotes other than those 'server based/can be nuked at anytime' Harmony's, the 'natives' whined like little restless bitches.
Just go on Amazon & look up 'air mouse' and take it from there.
Now, before anyone chimes in about how terrible they are (they aren't, especially if you get a quality one) consider the source/user error, always.
Granted, there's lots of trash on Amazon tho, so do yourself the favor & take the time to read reviews/watch use videos before buying anything.
What's wrong with Harmony setup?
