On Air vs Live Channels

by adamschoales

So my Sony TV just updated to Android 7.0 (Nougat?) and now whenever I change input sources (Say from PS4 to Apple TV, or from Apple TV to my Cable Box) a little prompt comes up asking:

"Open with live channels: just once always

use a different app: on air"

The thing is: I have no idea what the difference is, or which I should be picking, and I don't want to pick the wrong option and never be able to go back.

I can't find any documentation online so if anyone could help me out that'd be amazing!

Try one, if you don't like it you can reset it by clearing defaults in Settings>Apps>the app>Clear Defaults

Then try the other.

Rinse and repeat if needed.

It's mostly personal preference, although there may be functional differences between the two, depending on what listings are supported for the services in your area. Try each "just once" and then decide which works better for you. Then go with "always".

They're both just front ends to a feature called TvInputFramework. On Air is the Sony interface and Live Channels is the generic Google interface.
