4K Youtube on Sony Model X800D no more?

by bobby_corwin

I've had this TV for a little under a year and the youtube app used to have a the little gear icon that you see in youtube's normal web layout. You could switch resolutions on the fly with that option on the TV, even up to 2160p. But a recent update looks like it dialed it back completely. Now the app mirrors the app on PS4. The gear is gone and videos that are supposed to play in 4K only say HD when you look at the title card during a video. You can go to the "stats for nerds" option in the app and it looks like the resolution is scaled back to HD as well.

Curious if anyone else has noticed this. Did Sony or Android just eliminate 4K playback completely with this update? Is there a way to scale the app back to the previous iteration so I can get proper 2160p? It could be that I'm missing something, but I can't find any other way to explain it.

Thanks.

You could sideload the older apk from apkmirror.

I would be actually happy with no 4k youtube, performance at 4k was always pretty substandard.
