How to use an android tv in the living room?

by NemoCatalog

I'm going to buy the sony x800e and it has android tv, I've never used an android tv (but I'm tech savvy) but the real question is how do I use an android tv in a household with 5 people without them using my google account in the house tv. Should I create a google account for the family?

That's probably the best option you have that I can think of at the moment.

Sadly Google still hasn't gotten the hint and done proper multi-user support on Android TV. Other than the dedicated user for the TV, the only other option you have is you CAN have each person add their accounts to the TV just like you would adding extra Google accounts to and Android phone and then hope individual applications have an easy function to switch user accounts and get people to ensure they do so when they launch said app. It is quite a mess especially for what is almost always a multi-user device.

That's what I did.

You should also keep in mind that if you decide to stream some content to the tv (or play youtube video), everyone will be notified for no fucking reason on their devices. How or why I'm not sure. Notification also lets everyone to pause, skip etc

I use my account and setup everything on all of our Shield TVs. The rest of my family consumes content via whatever Apps or Games I have installed. For the most part its just Netflix (which has user profiles) or different streaming channels.

What apps are you concerned with? YouTube is the only one I can think of.
