SPMC / Kodi unresponsive

I've been using SPMC on my Nvidia Shield (2016) model for a long time. Recently SPMC has become quite unresponsive. When I tap on a video, it takes a long time for the "Working.." message to appear and I never see the video. Eventually I have to back out. I'm seeing the same issue with Kodi as well. I have killed the apps and restared and I tried rebooting the box but I can't get them to work properly any more. When I try Plex, the videos work fine.

Any ideas what may be causing this issue on SPMC/Kodi? The setup has been working fine for a long time until recently and I can't think of anything that changed recently.

For me it's some types of videos that never work. For those videos, if I try to play them nothing happens for a long time and then it says it failed to play and asks me to check the logs. The same video works in VLC. Just like you, I didn't experience this when I started using SPMC. I wonder if they removed support for some type of format.

I'm just spitballing here, but would it have something to do with the new shield experience update? Also are you wired or wireless? I have had network issues before (probably not your issue because it works in other programs or may not even be network allocated) on both wireless and Ethernet. Have you tried uninstalling and reinstalling spmc/Kodi? Is there an add-on that is interfering with the videos? Have you done a full cold power where you power off AND unplug for at least 30 seconds before powering on again?

So I finally figured out what it was. Looks like a Windows 10 Update breaks or disables SMB shares. Kodi and SPMC I guess were trying to talk to my PC and I guess it was making everything non-responsive. Once I fixed the SMB shares, everything went back to normal.
