App authors must update to support Oreo AndroidTV

Yeah... no. I hate the Android 8 TV launcher, and I don't blame any developer for not wasting time on supporting that garbage. Give me an icon grid with some basic organizational options and leave me alone. I don't want apps suggesting/annoying me with what they think I want to watch. It's already annoying as hell to get rid of shows from Netflix's built-in "keep watching" row when I watched one episode of a bad show (you have to go to the web UI of Netflix and delete the show from your viewing history).

I don't buy the excuse presented in the article. I think Nvidia recognizes the 8 launcher to be a shit show and is trying to convince Google to let them do something different or to go back to the old style.

This one thing. Why is the future of tv so spotchy in user exp. Devs seem to make halfway enjoyable experiences with halfway working apps. OS makers half ass the experience and feature sets. Manufactures half ass the hardware. All around it just appears every one just comes across as the living room exp is just whatever with a why bother approach. Doesn’t feel any different than the user exp of cable companies for the past 15yrs.

I’ve been looking forward to the future exp of the living room since about 2006 when Apple came out with Apple TV and Front Row. That’s 11yrs and not much has improved. XB1 was my latest hope and it was the best exp of all the products I’ve used, but they have thrown that out the window now. I’m just going to accept that wether the source is cable or internet no ones going to innovate the user exp of tv devices and watching content.
