This is why I almost didn’t want an android tv in the first place. Another Google I/O is around the corner and android P will be revealed. But sadly, no Sony tv and most other android TVs have Oreo.

What do you mean "most other android TVs"? I don't think there are any launched products for sale with Oreo Android TV. Oreo still in beta.
What app are you missing for not having Oreo? 99% of the current Android TV apps are still backward compatable till Android 5 (2014). How many new Tizen TV (Samsung) or WebOS TV(LG) apps supports TV's from 2014?
I think you should attend Google I/O and protest first at Sony and then let Google have a piece of your mind too !
You must be starvin' with no Oreo(s) ? ;-)
It’s not only about apps. Android O doesn’t only introduce new features but it entirely overhauls and optimizes the TvOS platform. The current os version is laggy and sluggish. Moreover, Oreo brings tons of security patches that all users need.
Still no update to this day. Androidtv updates are in limbo, as are the onees from the phones ofc. The os is a cluttered laggy mess anyway.
im pretty sure my 2015 Bravia will be stuck on Marshmallow , why do they care sad to say
/sarc/ But I want new, shiny software so I can impress my friends at cocktail parties. Never mind there is no tangible benefit, I want to feel good that I have the latest stuff. /sarc off/
MoF, food joke and all, I am 😂😂😂
So much for openness and support. I just hooked up an Apple TV 4K and I’m good. Native Dolby vision, HDR10 and more.
Panasonic still ships Marshmallow (6.0), no upgrades to Oreo in sight.
Does anyone know how to install an Oreo apk or even Android P beta?

It's been closer to 5 months. Nvidia has held off updating the shield to Oreo because apps aren't being updated to work with it. Careful what you wish for.
