Mi Box CEC volume controls?

by inate71

I'm getting fed up with the integrated Chromecast in my Vizio M-Series. I was planning on getting a Chromecast Ultra--but found out it doesn't handle volume via CEC. I know the Nvidia Shield seems to do fine in this regard--but it's a bit pricey. I was wondering if the Mi Box handles CEC volume like the Shield now.

Thanks!

My Mi Box doesn't do CEC volume control, the remote only controls Android volume slider. Navigating using TV remote works though, so I know CEC works.

I initially got a Chromecast Ultra, and just as you found out, I realized it doesn't control volume over CEC, which was a huge disappointment and the biggest reason I switched to the Shield. Now, here's where you need to be careful; while the Shield handles CEC volume just fine, no apps currently support it due to a permission issue in Nougat. Your Shield's remote volume will control your TV volume just fine, and the Android TV Remote app on an Android phone will also control the volume over CEC just fine. However, if you are like me and wanted to be able to control your actual volume (and not software volume slider) in apps like Spotify or Youtube when casting from your phone, that functionality is completely broken and doesn't work! From everything I've read, it has to do with a missing permission in the app for controlling DND status (which, stupidly, the Shield doesn't even have) in order to control volume. Keep that in mind, and don't get the Shield expecting to be able to raise/lower the volume from your phone when casting. At least, not until the permission issue is fixed, and judging by the fact that there are posts from a year ago on the topic and Google hasn't even fixed their own Youtube app, I wouldn't get my hopes up.
