Disable the “Android” in my TV

by dv8withn8

I have a Sony Bravia that’s about a year old that runs Android as its smart TV OS. The thing is. I only use my TV as a monitor. All it needs to do is switch inputs and let me adjust the picture.

Lately I’ve been getting annoying messages that Google Play has stopped working or some other App I have never used and need to hunt down the TV remote to dismiss it while I’m playing Xbox. Or worse, the TV randomly reboots itself.

I want a dumb TV. I don’t need the bloat that the Android OS is enabling. Can I turn off the “smart” features to make the TV act like a TV?

Try a factory reset to fix the errors. You might want to write down any vision picture settings that you adjusted.

You can uninstall just about anything you wish using a PC or Mac and the adb utility. DuckDuckGo "adb sony bravia android" or something similar and you'll find howtos.

Hmm I don't have a SmartTV, but since I cut the cord, and run everything through my shield, I've been running my TV in hotel mode, since it allows me to choose to start on HDMI rather than on the tuner.

Here's what I could find quickly but the Bravia series have been around for ages, before TV's became smart... So I don't know if it'll work for you.

Edit: Another thing I found

Edit2: of course, if it works, take care not to disable remote input, unless you know how to otherwise get into the menu.
