If you have sideload luncher by chainfire you can install the Android (phone version) on your Android TV device. I would recommend 4.5.5 I think the last update before twitch app turn to crap on Android imo and if you want chat or a better ui or if you have chrome or Firefox just load the website in desktop mode
I came here to find a solution to this, but did not. I fixed it though (by luck). Try this:
Click on a twitch stream.
Click the options (gear) button while it's showing an ad or loading.
Change the resolution. I think mine was automatically on auto. I changed it to the highest available for the stream (1080 source for example).
The stream loaded then!
I'm on a Sony a1e. Let me know if that works for you.
The app was last updated in 2016 it's likely to keep breaking.

Working fine on my end. Also a mi box. It could have been a temporary problem on Twitch.
If still not working for you, try clearing cache and signing out and back in (if applicable).
