I actually have this same problem. Yeah a reboot helps but my honest only comment is the mibox is a dumpster fire slowly burning down. I wish i had advise but my takeaway is to find workarounds for our problem and hope for more Android tv adoption
I had this problem with my mi box. I sold it and got a shield. Best decision ever. Worth the cost.

Try entering developer options (Settings, about, hit enter a few times until it says that you are a developer) and setting Apps to 2 or 3 background process limit.
