YouTube quietly gets a redesign on Android TV, finally supports adjusting video quality

Still a wrapper, not updating to that shit.

Ausernameneeded

Is it still a web wrapper? If so, I still consider it a half assed step backwards and see Google ditching their own AndroidTV platform.

If it is a real app, that's great news.

akhild

Which version it is coming with?,

Is it with latest version 2.02.08?

But I'm unable to see new ui on my mi box and tcl/Thomson android tv :(

I can't believe that on a non-Google platform, the Xbox One has a far superior TV YouTube app in the form of MyTube.

Does this effect Sony TV's? I haven't seen an update yet.

Half the videos on youtube still crash the app on my Philips TV, but navigating the app is definitely much faster now. The app still takes quite a bit of time to load though.

An improvement, imo, but the biggest problems with the app aren't fixed.

Is this showing up on people's Shield TV?

My YouTube Red subscription is not working on mine. I watch from a brand account. Anyone else having this issue?

The Samsung TV app is also a web wrapper it's not native

SubElement

Still don't have the new UI here.

Does it still not side scroll long title text like the old app does? This alone made the new version unusable for me.

It's a step in the right direction, but I still prefer to use Smart YouTube TV app as my main YouTube app on my Shield.

Yeah, UI wise it's pretty much the same, but this app has complete video/audio quality control and no ads.

Also one pain in the ass thing I hate about the official YouTube app is you can't pause a video, hit the home button, go do something else, go back to the YouTube app and unpause.
Anytime the YouTube app loses focus, it will reopen the app from the very beginning.

How do you update to this? Is it USA only?

At least Google are still updating android TV. Thought they'd forgot about us...

My biggest issue with YouTube on Android TV is the lack of ability to read the description of the video (or even the full title if it's too long!) Kodi add-on can do this which is useful.

It'd be really nice if you could read comments too but understand this is likely not a focus for the TV release.

Lastly, when is PIP coming?!? Or the ability to browse around to select a video to queue up when watching another video.
