Unified remote is good but I don't know if it will suit your application?
I really like tv sideview, it gives me the full remote functionality and it allows me to start on any app on my TV.,
I'm a vivid user of Remote Android TV . Basically the official app with added functionality. You can turn on the TV and stuff with it which is one of the reasons why I prefer it.
