The Mi Box is abandoned hardware. Don't expect anymore software updates.
It's shitty, but pretty expected for a Xiaomi product.
Major apps like Netflix/Youtube will likely work for another 1-2 years.
However, if security is a high concern for you, then you should probably phase out using the Mi Box.
Danm I was thinking of buying a mibox. Not sure if Google or Xiaomi is incharge of updating the software. I have a Xiaomi redmi note 4g that is still being updated despite being 4 years old.
Well if this is a concern, one can consider the new mecool m8s pro W that was just released. It runs official Android TV OS 7.x. The only thing that concerned me was it did not support Chromecast built-in as well as 5Ghz Wifi (it does have an ethernet port though) and it does not support Bluetooth and is rooted which maybe a plus for some.

Yes Mi Box support is essentially abandoned, even Android 7.0 build 1560 is on July security. You can't expect 3rd party Android security patches at all anymore and Google no longer makes an official AndroidTV box.
