can you recommend an android tv box?

by flynch

I'm looking for an android box that I can connect to my TV and is HDCP compliant. I am not looking for something that is rooted nor am I interested in something that comes pre-loaded with software that facilitates piracy. I would like to be able to use the google play store to download and install a few tv apps. I would prefer a box that has an Ethernet port. Is there something cheap and cheerful that fits the bill?

There is one and only choice which is with it : Shield

Desolance90

It's either a shield for $200.00, or a Mi Box for $80.00. The shield definently gets yours money's worth. I have both and never have any hangups on the shield. They are not the same either. Example: the shield has amazon video, the mi box does not.

I'm also a PC gamer with an nvidia gpu so I occasionally use my shield to stream my pc games.

If the Shield is too expensive get a MiBox. It's the next best thing and much cheaper.

If you are looking for streaming only than the Mi Box ($69). If you need gaming then Shield.

Not sure if there is some commission program here to get people to buy the shield, but there are consumer options outside of spending $160+ on a box to just stream video from normal services like YouTube, Netflix, Vue/Sling, etc.

Like mentioned already. The shield or the Mibox.

I've seen many folks defend the Mibox while simultaneously complain that they don't get regular updates and fixes.

The Nvidia Shield works - consistently - offers all the features and horsepower you could ever want - and does so at a reasonable price.

There'll always be cheaper options - but I now have three Shield TVs in my house because they're the only headache-free Android TV option right now.

So what's the difference between the shield and the mi true Android boxes and the so-called shit boxes? I am new to this and trying to school myself on it. Do the true Android boxes get an Android TV channel that the cheap boxes cannot get? I guess what I'm saying is what makes a true Android box as opposed to the shit boxes? Is it just that Android gave a license to those two and not the others? Or is there a true difference between what the boxes can do?

I'm planning to get an android box as well to run kodi on but don't know which one to get. I'm looking for something that has an ethernet port and is under $100.

Pls take a look at the recently released "Meecool m8s pro W". It's around US$50. It has official Android TV OS 7.x so it will also support Netflix 4K. It does not support 5Ghz Wifi though and no Bluetooth or Chromecast. If that's important to you, Mi Box it is. Oh it has an ethernet port built-in.

I've just ordered it, still haven't tested it.
