NVIDIA Shield works when connected to my TV HDMI ports but won't work when connected my HDMI Switch?

by wobel85

I have a 4K TV w/ 3 HDMI ports. Before I got my XB1X, my PS4Pro & Nvidia Shield where connected to my TV.

I purchased a HDMI Switch awhile back. Tonight I tried plugging the HDMI cord from the Shield to one of the ports on the Switch. The Switch has 4 ports, the Shield is connected to port 4. When I turn the Shield on the NVIDIA logo pops up for 5 seconds then the screen turns black .

However, if I plug the Shield into one of the 3 HDMI ports on my TV, it works fine? I don't know what the issue is? My Nintendo Switch, NES/SNES Classic consoles work find with the HDMI Switch.

Any ideas?

Perhaps your switch is not HDCP (2.2) compliant? If the logo shows, then I'd say the connection itself is good but some software feature/restriction is preventing you from having image afterwards. I'd say HDCP is a good bet in that regard.

You could try setting your Shield to 1080p and testing again. If that does work you can safely assume it's HDCP that's causing it and you'd need to go look for a 4K approved HDMI switch.

I don't know much about these HDMI switches. culprits could be many, for example, may be not ports on switch are 4K, or the switch can only support 2/3 4K devices at the same time, or may shield has some DRM against piracy, power issues with the switch (is it externally powered or not) etc.

Have you tried contacting Shield support about this issue?
