Wasted/awkward spacing, inconsistent icon sizes, jarring navigation animations, and rows of video recommendations that no one asked for. Yay?
I noticed this from a retweet of the Android TV lead: https://twitter.com/Rookie0ne
So I assume legit
Please please please have dynamic content switching. I want the device to know to switch into rec 2020 when theres an HDR source and stay in rec 709 when there isnt.
At first glance, this looks to be going in the direction I hate: force feeding content to users on the home screen. I'm excited about some of the other planned Oreo updates, though.
Thanks for sharing!
I hope it is configurable. I may not want some any or all of this.
Dear God, I've been dreading this day. I hate the Oreo launcher on my Nexus SOOOOO much.
I missed it, does anyone have a mirror?
The new interface doesn't look that bad to me although I've never actually used it. I'm only saying that because I think the current UI isn't very good either. Some will disagree but I think ATV interface in general is a bit old school. Launch an app, click the home button to go back to home screen, navigate to another icon, launch another app. I kinda like what non Android smart TVs are doing better, like Samsung Tizen for example. You don't really have a home screen as it isn't needed. It's a more streamlined experience. Sony TVs with ATV actually have something similar but worse and a bit sluggish.
Thanks for sharing. :)
Mirror?
As long as they update the live channels app, I will be happy
God dammit who designs that shit? Is it Google, or Nvidia this time? Why is my AndroidTV experience getting worse instead of better?
Not interface related but IIRC won’t Oreo bring a fix to the whole Shield system being locked at 4K causing it to upscale instead of your 4K tv? If so...interface is what it is, I watch tv on my Shield not stare at the home screen. I get that an unpleasant interface can be annoying..but I’m in the camp of thinking it’s pretty ok.
Will it be possible or is it possible to block the update? While I am able to disable the notification once the shield tv goes into standby the sceen to update comes up and eventually I will probably update by accident.
I feel like they've made the rows closer together which eliminates some of the empty black space - or is that me?
Why they can't add an option for a background to the launcher is way beyond me.
Awesome!
How do I make sure this update never shows up on my Shield?
I'll probably stop updating mine. I hate the launcher on my Nexus Player and don't want it on my Shield.
No apps the recommendations, the app launcher up top is much less user friendly, and it just looks awful with the different shapes and icon sizes, plain background. Ugh.
Google has been doing so good with their design and UX everywhere else and they just fucked this up.
There's really a not one big feature that anyone is looking forward to in oreo update lol.
Just because nobody asked in this topic yet... Any ETA? 🙃
Just looks like a bunch of ads.
I'll be sticking TVLauncher as my home screen. Nothing beats it!
Looks like the newer YouTube app.
but why though?
UGH no headphone jack!
Interesting to note that there are at least 7 apps in the top row. So there's at least one improvement.
