Is there a way to cast FROM android tv 6.0 TO a Chromecast? (just as you can do from almost any android phone)

So for example, the household has 2 television sets and one Xiaomi Mi Box hooked up to one of the TVs. Both TVs are not "smart", so in order to watch things on the second TV, it needs to be hooked up to another smart device. Mi Box was chosen cause the first TV has a 5.1 system, and Mi Box has an optical audio out. So I'm considering Chromecast for a second TV since it only has HDMI and built-in speakers.

But except for Mi Box, there's no androids in the household lying around, only an iPad device, so the Chromecast is basically limited by the iPad software selection with the Chromecast support, right? I've got a feeling that's not much, especially since some apps aren't on iOS at all.

That's why I was wondering, are the usual Chromecasting features of Android are still somewhere in the Android TV? Or if not, is there a way to activate them? Or are there any third-party solutions?

I have a hard time googling this cause all the results are obviously about the reverse - casting TO an Android TV. And I don't have access to the Mi Box and a Chromecast to test things out.

Most of the apps that support Google Cast on Android also support it on iOS.

Your question gets a complicated answer, but the short answer is YES.

However this cannot happen on stock. I've seen this be doable with the Shield TV and the Nexus Player:

No clue what additions need to be made for it to happen though.

Doesn't work like that. Android TV is meant to be a cast receiver like the Chromecast. The phone/tablet is meant to be the cast sender going in one direction, from small screen to big screen.

If you want Android TV's UI and features on that second TV, then you need to buy another Android TV device to connect to it. A Chromecast will not act as some kind of adhoc replacement for a dedicated device.

Which apps do you need that aren't Cast enabled on iOS?

Personally I'd say that the only way you're going to get a solid answer for this is to test this for yourself in the real world.

When I used to play around with non-android TV boxes that had regular android marshmallow 6.0 with no Google Play onboard, I used to side load apps. One example was the Netflix app that is intended for phone/tablet and it included a cast option within the app.

I can't say that I ever attempted to use the Netflix app cast feature to cast to a Chromecast but I imagine it probably would have worked. Other apps intended for phones and tablets also include a cast option.

So might that be an option - side load phone apps that can cast onto your android TV box?
