We’ve been through 2 shieldTV remotes now within 2 years. A bit ridiculous if you ask me.
They just stop either charging or just flat out refuse to work. Current one only works when it is plugged into a charger
What else can I get? The stock remote is fine but I Want something more reliable.
Keep in mind it needs to be Bluetooth/Wifi because our shield tv is mounted on the wall so it’s hidden behind our TV... so IR won’t work
By the way, alot of fire TV remotes work well with shield too if you have any laying around.
A better remote is on my list of things to get. I'm looking at the Inteset remote with a usb/IR receiver - $43. It'll handle my IR tv remote, the Shield, my DVD player and one other remote.

I've had three damn ShieldTV remotes since 2015 and this last one quit working (unless plugged in) ONE DAY after the return date. ...so not even a month.
I now use the Sony TV remote via CEC.
You could try getting the 2017 version remote, it has an button cell battery that lasts very long and can easily be exchanged.
I have 2 shield TV 2017 pro models, both remotes faulty. Right side of direction key (O shaped) "ticks" twice when I press right. Both of remotes have same problem. It's very annoying. Luckily my TV remote controls shield too. Sorry for bad English.
Overkill but Harmony hub + remote is godlike with the shield, best remote Ive ever used.
