3rd party remote for Nvidia Shield?

by PrinceKickster

Hey guys

So I am contemplating to buy a Android TV box these past months, and as far as I've heard there's only two players on it, Mi Box and Nvidia Shield. But Mi Box is already unsupported and doesn't even have a newer update yet so the best right now is to bet on Nvidia Shield. Plus it got Amazon Prime and other exclusive Nvidia features right?

As far as i've known it's an overkill Android TV device & sorta a Android gaming console, but it doesn't even have a proper HDR support right, and still stucked on Nougat til now? But what turns me off is the TV remote, it's very bulky and have sharp weird gaming edges aesthetics, not very good to hold and on comfort (unlike say the Nexus Player or Mi Box's remote).

I'm concerned my family gonna hate to use it, so I wanna ask, is the Nvidia Shield the best Android TV box right now? And also does it support Live TV right now? What's it's latest Android update publicly available? And is it possible to pair a 3rd party remote on these devices? Are they a thing and available to buy? Or what remote that shipped with it is as is?

Shield remote bulky??? YOu mean game controller? The remote is slim. It's hit or miss as far as the remote functioning properly for you. Many owners have remote issues. The good thing though is the shield is very compatible with 3rd party remotes. Bluetooth and usb dongle remotes. Plenty to choose from.

Shield does have Amazon video but Mi box MAY also have it soon.

Live Channels on the shield does work very well from what I hear, although I don't use it.

It's currently on Nougat and I will probably keep it and decline Oreo as mine is finally running perfectly after this last update.

Yes the Shield is by far the best Android TV box (though I have a MiBox as well and it's decent)

The Shield comes with a little remote in addition to the gamepad. I tried several replacement remotes and this one was by far the best one: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B077XX6488/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

It has several ways to support Live TV. HDHomerun with antenna for free OTA, or streaming services such as DirecTVNow, YouTubeTV, PSVue.

I use a Harmony Companion + Hub and it works quite well with the Shield TV. You can generally pair any bluetooth remote with it. Some of the boxes have IR if that's how you want to roll. When you talk about the tv remote are you talking about this or the game pad? The small remote isn't bulky at all.
