Mi Box on its way, what to install

by bobniborg1

So, I've scrolled through recent posts. I'm installing kodi for local media. I use Amazon prime video and spotify, are those working on the mi box? Anything else I should be looking at using? I had a nexus player but it scrapped itself after the oreo update and has problems.

I mainly looking at apps people tend to sideload, I can browse the play store for the usual suspects.

Edit: thanks for the replies all.

Amazon store app so you can order a shield.

Amazon Prime Video works but needs to be sideloaded (v4.2.43 is the working version, sorry I lost the link to it).

Besides whatevewr else, some other apps I have and which prove to be useful are

  • HALlauncher (to be honest I use it mainly because it's easier to force stop an app from there, otherwise don't use it much),
  • Puffin Browser for Android TV (although I use it maybe once a month for some rando search or whatever),
  • AdClear (though looking for suggestions for a nicer adblocker),
  • MouseToggle (rather than hooking up an external mouse - useful for those apps that don't play nice with the DPAD),
  • Aptoide TV ("the optimised App Store for your Set Top Box")
  • MiXplorer (file manager I use so I save my apks on Dropbox and then open from here to sideload)
  • TV App Repo (to create launcher icons for sideloaded apps)

Mobdro (mobdro.to) has lots of live TV feeds.

Archos video for local and remote videos. The best.

Do you have a bluetooth controller you can hook up? Maybe grab an emulator and play some games. I know PSP, PSX and N64 run well on MiBox, haven't tried GC or Dreamcast

I eventually found the perfect clock: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=mattiesworld.gotdns.org.onscreenclock

Make it tiny and dim in one corner.

I enjoy using r/TerrariumTV. https://www.apkmirror.com/apk/terrarium-tv/

Edit: Make sure to check out the side bar thing. Some useful tools for it as well.

TerarriumTv is the kiddie for youre VOD requirements. Way less clunky than kodi. Adaptable & user friendly.

I haven't seen a need to sideload anything but here are the apps I use normally with no issue:

Netflix, YouTube, Hulu, Spotify, Kodi, X-plore (free file manager), RetroArch (game emulation have NES, SNES, Genesis, GBA, and Arcade installed with it).

All the same stuff you had on the Nexus Player.

YouTube TV... Oh wait, nevermind. 😒
