Anyway to activate gen 1 shield controller mic from another remote?

by Max_Roc

I'm using a 3rd party remote and have the controller sitting nearby. When I click on a search, I'd like the controller to turn on without handling it. Anyway to accomplish this?

Good question. I tried the method of using a playstation eye camera as microphone, but the recognition rate is pretty bad. So triggering The existing mics from another device, in my case a harmony remote, would be nice.

Alternatively... The latest gen FireTV remote works perfectly with the Shield. Even the microphone and its associated button. You just have to hold the microphone button down as you are talking.

You have to pair it as a Shield Accessory given that it is a Wifi Direct device.

I use one as my primary remote. As I have a 2st gen Shield that didn't include the remote. And I hate using a game controller as the primary remote.

You can buy it directly from Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/Alexa-Voice-Remote-Amazon-Stick/dp/B00NO8JJZW/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1520628064&sr=8-1&keywords=fire+tv+remote
