Supposedly they're up to Oreo now so I just wondered how people find these in a living room environment, looking for a smooth experience and currently from my googling it seems a shame apparently the only way to go is the Shield lol.
Cheers

They're not up to Oreo, not even stable Nougat yet. Oreo was on show at electronic fair, not for us plebs...
Didn't: sorry to answer your question, Plex is perfect for me. Used to be some odd issues with sound passthrough but all working for me now.
It's still on android 6.0
Plex works great. It doesn't like DTS audio though so it will transcode it down to 2ch stereo. If you use the SPDIF output, everything will be 2ch stereo as Plex can't figure out what to give you so it defaults to that. That's a Plex bug, not a Mi Box bug.
It can direct play h265 10bit 1080p. Haven't tried 4k yet since I don't have a 4k TV.
Passthrough is buggy.
all good apart from pip, it's very slow. this could be a nougat issue however.
It's decent for basic usage though you'll be better off using the plugin for Kodi to extend format support like ass subtitles, opus/flac audio etc.
Depending on updates the Plex app get small framerate loss but it's noticeable. It worked great and then they switched to Exoplayer 2 and I got slowdowns.
With Kodi I can read my entire library without any issues.
