Philips TV 55" OLED 4K Razor (55POS9002/12) experiences?

by FezVrasta

Hey guys, I have an old 55PUS7909/12 TV with Google TV as OS, it's probably the worst TV I ever bought if it wasn't for Ambilight and the Hue integration.

Now I'd like to replace it with a 55POS9002/12 TV hoping for better stability, real 4K support (mine should support it but it crashes when I try to use it), hopefully a better display, being OLED, and maybe an audio system that doesn't distorts the sound when I enable the Dolby Surround...

Am I a complete idiot if I hope to get a good-to-great TV buying this new model or are there chances that these new TVs are actually way better than what I have now?

Thanks!

Have you considered buying a 'dumb' tv and getting an stb like the Sheild instead? You can pick up noname/unbranded TVs with last-gen (or possibly 2 gens ago) Samsung OLED or led panels that do nice 4k and don't cost heaps because they're 'dumb' and therefore less desirable... It's what I did :) better 4k performance on shield than any android tv smart tv will give you...

Edit: bonus, with hue hub and some hue strips, the shield can 'emulate' ambilight as well, there's resources for that and a Plex (probably Kodi too) plugin :)

Instead of futzing around with another Philips, why not get the LG OLED B7 for $1,650 at Costco (including a 5-year warranty when using your Costco Visa card)?

Vincent Teoh compares the B7/C7 (same internals) to the 9002 in a number of ways and finds the B7/C7 to be superior picture quality in a number of ways:

Better bright scene handling than other OLED brands, ATMOS with the new firmware, and better handling of ambient light than the 9002, which exhibits a magenta tint in ambient lighting .

my suggestion find what firmware that tv uses and then go here and look for posts on the firmware experience. you will get an idea if it is stable enough. personally I think the new Philips with Android TV get good regular updates.

I have a 65PUS and, like you, it is the worst TV I have ever had, so bad and poorly supported that I will never trust a Philips product again. I wouldn't do it, especially considering it actually has "POS" in the model number this time.

That said, if you're really determined, have a look at their support forums to see how people are getting along with that model. From a quick skim it appears to be pretty much the same deal as the generation we have: few updates, and every one fixes one thing and breaks three more. No thanks.

Got an oled lg b7 55" from Fry's for $999. Absolutely outstanding tv. I almost feel like i stole it. Highly recommended.
