I can't decide

by Pacoroto

there are so many devices and I know so little about them, which should I choose? I like the mi box, but the mi box 4 is around the corner, also it doesn't have SD card...

I don't know which to choose, I'd like one around 50 €/$ can you guys help me?

there are so many devices

There actually isn't. There's two Android TV devices that are readily available right now: Shield TV and Mi Box.

I think you're confusing Android boxes with Android TV devices. There's only one Mi Box that runs the Android TV OS. The rest of the models run regular Android with a skin on it and are meant for the Chinese market only.

Avoid the MiBox 4 line at all cost. MDZ-16-AB is specifically designed for the international market, unlike every other box in their lineup.

I do not recommend the Mi box. I've got 2 of them and a SHIELD TV. It is a completely different experience between the devices. Using the Mi box feels slow and buggy, with frequent netflix and the occasional issue with plex. When I use the SHIELD it is so much faster, and everything just works. Haven't had a single issue with the SHIELD and I've had it since release which is close to 3 years now I think. Spend the extra money its worth it. Or depending on your requirements pick up a cheap s905/rpi3 and run librelec on it.

With this news , MiBox is a dead end. I suspect we won't see any official upgrades for Nougat, much less Oreo. It's pretty typical behavior for Xiaomi.

Mi box is the only real one in your price range but it looks like it's on 6 for ever. I just got one and for kodi using local content it works great. I've also used a few streaming apps like hgtv and ESPN with no issues. Amazon has to be sideloaded but it works (though I get black screen when playing the next episode.) If you want the real android tv, get a shield. Nothing else, just the shield.
